Bowie , Christy Moore, the Clash. Ireland and England. Timelessness and a sense of place that’s universal (and a little bit of Funkadelic . . .)

   From A Jumble Of Beginnings

to Drowning History

Garret came to music a couple of decades ago, back when peace and justice seemed even further away than they do now, back when memories and passions and identities were bound up in music even more, back when everyone was certain and the New Labour New Pretences were small, dim, lurking. He came with songs and anger and a desire to change hearts and minds through music. Wrapped up in the folk musics, the blues, of Ireland and England - in punk and folk and the power of song- he wrote and wrote and sang and sang. He could step back from things and observe; he could throw himself into things and laugh. And he found he could merge the soul and melody of Ireland with the hidden rages, knowingness and fears of England. One day, he knew he’d have to record it all.   One day, he did.  Have a listen.
